Young Scientists' Conference
The Young Scientists' Conference on Astronomy and Space Physics (YSC), held in Kyiv since 1994, is an international platform where students and early-career researchers present their work and build collaborations.
About
The Young Scientists' Conference on Astronomy and Space Physics is organised by the Department of Astronomy and Space Physics of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, run largely by the students themselves. Since its foundation in 1994 it has grown into a well-established international meeting aimed at students, PhD students and young researchers.
The programme covers the breadth of the field, including:
- Atmospheric and Solar System studies, and exoplanets.
- Stellar astrophysics.
- Extragalactic astrophysics and cosmology.
- Solar physics, space physics and related areas.
For many young Ukrainian astronomers, YSC is a first step into the international community: a place to give an early talk, meet peers and mentors from abroad, and start collaborations. The 32nd edition (YSC'32) took place on 20 to 25 April 2026 in Kyiv, with online participation via Zoom.
Why it is part of the recovery
Human capital and scientific networks, and education and public engagement, are directions of the Recovery Plan for Ukrainian Astronomy. By keeping an international conference running through the war and welcoming remote participation, YSC sustains exactly the early-career connections the recovery depends on.
