Gamow International Astronomical Conference

An annual international conference held in Odesa, the birthplace of George Gamow, spanning astronomy, astrophysics, cosmology, gravitation, astroparticle physics, radio astronomy and astrobiology.

About

The Gamow conference series has run annually in Odesa for more than a quarter of a century, carrying forward the tradition of the scientific meetings George Gamow initiated during his years at the University of Washington. It is one of the longest-running international astronomical meetings in Ukraine.

The programme is unusually broad, with sections on cosmology, astrophysics, binary systems, extragalactic astronomy, radio astronomy, solar activity and exoplanets, and a section devoted to Gamow’s ideas in 21st-century biology, reflecting his contribution to the genetic code.

The XXVI edition took place on 17 to 21 August 2026 in Odesa, marking the 122nd anniversary of Gamow’s birth and the 80th anniversary of the hot Universe concept.
